Approximately 35 firefighters responded to a fire in a restaurant in Melbourne’s CBD on Friday evening.

FRV crews were called to the Little Bourke Street incident just before 6:50pm after multiple callers to Triple Zero (000) reported smoke coming from the roof of a building.

Firefighters arrived on scene in four minutes and quickly escalated the response due to the threat of the fire spreading to adjoining buildings.

Wearing breathing apparatus, crews worked to attack the fire, and contained it to the kitchen area of the restaurant.

They then accessed the second storey of the building to search for fire extension and ventilate the building.

They deemed the fire under control by 7:34pm, and a community warning was issued for surrounding residents to stay indoors and close all windows and vents.

FRV firefighters worked alongside Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police on scene.
