More than 30 FRV firefighters responded to a house fire in Melton West at 9:50pm on Wednesday, following multiple calls to Triple Zero (000) reporting the blaze.

Crews arrived at the Westlake Drive scene within six minutes to find a significant fire issuing from the roof of a two-storey brick house and quickly escalated the response.

Wearing breathing apparatus, FRV and CFA firefighters searched the home to confirm no one was inside before working quickly to stop the spread of the fire, which was threatening neighbouring properties.

The blaze was deemed under control just after 11pm, with firefighters remaining on scene overnight to monitor for hot spots and ensure total extinguishment of the flames.

Ambulance Victoria, Victoria Police and local power and gas companies were also on scene assisting with operations.

FRV's Specialist Fire Investigation Unit will attend the scene on Thursday morning to determine the cause.
