The grassfire began to run out of control toward the road, and the response was quickly escalated.

FRV was assisted by CFA, and firefighters worked together to bring the fire under control within half an hour.

A community advice message was issued, advising residents that there was a lot of smoke in the area and to avoid driving due to poor visibility.

Victoria Police assisted at the scene by diverting traffic away from the fire.

Firefighters are expected to remain on scene for some time while they monitor and wet down any hot spots.

At the height of the fire there were approximately 26 FRV firefighters on board six pumpers and two other units, in addition to CFA crews.
