Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to an incident in O'Connor Street, Reservoir at 10.37pm after several calls to Triple Zero (000) reported a unit fire.
FRV crews arrived on scene in under seven minutes to find a double storey unit well alight, so the response was escalated.
FRV crews donned breathing apparatus and began attacking the fire as well as preventing any further fire spread to adjoining units. The fire started in the garage and spread to the house.
A search was conducted and all occupants have evacuated safely.
The fire was deemed under control by 1126pm..
The cause of the fire is not yet known and will be investigated by FRV specialists.
Firefighters will remain on scene to ensure the fire is fully extinguished.
A total of 10 appliances and 28 firefighters were committed to the firefight.
