More than 25 FRV firefighters responded to two house fires in Spotswood on Saturday night.

Multiple callers to Triple Zero (000) reported the fires just before 9.40pm.

Firefighters arrived at the Craig Street scene within six minutes.

Upon arrival, crews found two adjoining weatherboard houses were well alight.

Wearing breathing apparatus, crews entered the properties to search for occupants, finding nobody was home.

Crews worked quickly to attack the fires, bringing them under control at 10.15pm.

It is believed the properties were abandoned, and the fires are believed to be suspicious.

Firefighters remain on scene to extinguish any remaining hot spots, and will hand the scene to Victoria Police once the fire is fully extinguished.
