Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded at 2.28pm to a structure fire on Nelson Road, Ringwood after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a house fire.
Firefighters arrived on scene within six minutes to find a double-storey brick veneer home, about 10m by 20m, fully involved on the ground floor, which was threatening adjacent homes.
No one was home at the time.
FRV crews quickly established firefighting hose lines to attack the blaze and protect adjoining properties.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze, and the scene was deemed Under Controlat 3.18pm.
The home sustained severe fire and smoke damage.
The cause of the fire was determined to be electrical.
Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria attended in support of FRV operations.
