Approximately 50 firefighters responded to a factory fire in Brunswick on Sunday afternoon.

FRV crews were called to the Ovens Street incident just before 4:25pm, after a caller to Triple Zero (000) reported a mattress on fire inside the building.

Firefighters arrived on scene in four minutes and quickly extinguished a fire on the first floor, before they attacked a second fire within the building.

Additional firefighting resources were called in to prevent the fire from spreading to the rear and the roof of the factory.

Crews declared the incident under control about 45 minutes after they first arrived on scene.

At the height of the incident, there were 16 firefighting appliances responding to the blaze.

FRV worked alongside Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria, and the local council at the scene.

Firefighters handed the scene over to Victoria Police for further investigation.
