Approximately 30 firefighters responded to a house fire in Preston on Saturday afternoon.

FRV crews were called to the Newcastle Street incident just before 2pm after a caller to Triple Zero (000) reported the blaze.

Firefighters arrived on scene in five minutes to find the house well alight.

Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters attacked the fire, and contained it to the front of the house and the porch.

They brought the incident under control 15 minutes after they first arrived on scene.

Firefighters transferred one person into the care of Ambulance Victoria paramedics, and remained on scene to monitor for hot spots.

FRV crews believed the cause of the fire was electrical.
