Firefighters were called to McBryde Street just before 5:40pm, after numerous triple zero (000) calls were received reporting flames issuing from the top floor of a double storey home.

Initial FRV crews arrived on scene within seven minutes. Additional firefighting appliances were quickly responded to the scene to assist.

Wearing breathing apparatus for protection from the smoke, crews entered the building to conduct a search.

They pulled two occupants, one of whom was elderly, from the home. Thankfully another occupant had evacuated earlier.

They were handed into the care of Ambulance Victoria paramedics for assessment at the scene.

Firefighters managed to contain the blaze in less than half an hour, however the property was damaged extensively by the fire.

Crews will remain on scene for some time to ensure all hot spots are completely extinguished.

The cause of the fire is being determined.

At the height of the fire there were almost 30 firefighters on scene. Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police assisted FRV at the incident.
