At 3.21pm, Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to a structure fire on the Nepean Highway, Moorabbin after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a bowling alley fire.
Firefighters arrived on scene within four minutes to find smoke and flames issuing from the roof of the 20x30m single storey brick building. Eleven additional firefighting trucks were initially sent due to the number of 000 calls received.
A search undertaken by firefighters confirmed that no one was inside. The centre was currently closed for business.
The scene was deemed under control at 4:39pm.
The fire has been deemed suspicious.
Firefighters will remain on scene into the evening to continue to extinguish the fire and to undertake fire duties.
Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria are also on the scene. The power and gas companies also attended.
