Firefighters respond to Dandenong factory fire

UPDATE 6.30PM

Firefighters have cleared the area and made the scene safe.

FRV has now transferred control of the incident to Victoria Police.

UPDATE 10.45AM

The Dandenong South factory fire was declared Under Control at 9.00pm last night. 

There is a small amount of fire containment work ongoing.

One person remains unaccounted for. 

As the structure was fully engulphed with flames, firefighters are unable to make entry into the building.

FRV crews are waiting on a structural engineer to assess the building prior to our firefighters being able to conduct a primary search this afternoon.

Over the next several hours we will be starting to open the surrounding scene. This involves our crews working with owners to assess the safety of the buildings prior to re-entry.

FRV has 5 trucks and 30 firefighters on scene.

UPDATE 4.15AM

The Dandenong South Factory fire has been declared Under Control.

One person remains unaccounted for.

As the structure was fully engulphed with flames, firefighters are unable to make entry into the building to conduct a primary search.

There will be no further operations conducted until such time as the Building Surveyor can declare the structure safe and firefighters and Victoria Police can enter and make an assessment of the scene.

2 fire trucks, 8 firefighters, and a Commander remain in the scene.

08/12/2023 

UPDATE 9.00pm:

The Dandenong South Factory fire has been declared Under Control.

One person remains unaccounted for.

As the structure was fully engulphed with flames, firefighters are unable to make entry into the building to conduct a primary search.

Crews will remain on scene overnight.

UPDATE 4.25PM:

The Dandenong South factory fire is not yet under control. 

Crews remain on scene, with 40 appliances and more than 120 firefighters attending the incident.

Two firefighters were treated for minor injuries and two factory workers were transported to hospital.

FRV understands one factory worker may be unaccounted for.

A watch and act advice message remains in place.

1PM:

FRV firefighters are responding to a significant fire at a paint factory on Superior Drive, Dandenong.

Crews arrived shortly after 12pm and immediately escalated the response.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria are also on scene. 

A Watch and Act message has been issued. 

Anyone located in the industrial estate in Dandenong South surrounding the Hammond Road area should take shelter indoors immediately.
