More than 70 FRV firefighters are on scene at High Street, Preston where a factory fire broke out about 9am this morning.
The alarm was raised following multiple calls to Triple Zero (000) reporting a fire in the roof of a furniture factory, with heavy black smoke billowing and visible flames.
Crews arrived within six minutes to find the rear of the building completely engulfed in flames, and the fire spreading to a neighbouring building.
Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters are currently working to control the blaze.
Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police are also on scene.
The scene was declared under control at 9.51am.
FRV crews are expected to remain on scene into the afternoon, to extinguish hotspots and to make the scene safe.
Occupants of the building self-evacuated and were treated by Ambulance Victoria paramedics.
Community members and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
