Firefighters contain flames at Footscray unit

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) crews responded to a unit fire in Footscray in the early hours of Monday morning following calls to Triple Zero (000).

Crews arrived on scene in under 4 minutes to find a unit on the top floor of a 3-storey building severely damaged by fire.

Wearing breathing apparatus (BA) a total of 30 firefighters worked to minimise the spread of the fire, bringing the incident under control in 25 minutes.

Smoke and water damage has affected several other units and the rehousing of the occupants of 6 units is being arranged.

Firefighters will remain on scene throughout the morning to continue fire duties and ensure the scene is safe.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
