FRV crews responded to a structure fire in Northcote this evening after multiple calls to Triple Zero (000) reported large amounts of smoke and flames issuing from a residence on Mitchell Street.

Approximately 28 firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes of receiving the call to find a weatherboard house significantly involved, with flames visible on the roof of the house.

Crews immediately escalated the response.

Wearing breathing apparatus, crews worked quickly to attack the fire, including by using aerial appliances.

The fire was brought under control in less than 30 minutes, at about 7.05pm.

The occupant of the home had safely evacuated prior to FRV’s arrival and was attended to by Ambulance Victoria paramedics.

FRV was supported by CFA, Victoria Police and a power and gas company at the scene.

The fire is not being treated as suspicious.
