Approximately 22 FRV firefighters responded to a fire in Sunshine West in the early hours of Friday morning.

FRV and CFA crews were called to the Glengala Road incident just before 3am after a caller to Triple Zero (000) reported smoke and flames issuing from the roof of a building.

Firefighters arrived on scene in five minutes to find a disused school hall well alight.

Crews attacked the blaze externally, utilising specialist aerial appliances, bringing the fire under control within 35 minutes after first arriving on scene.

Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters then conducted a search of the premises, to find no occupants inside.

FRV crews determined the cause to be suspicious and handed over to Victoria Police for further investigation.

Ambulance Victoria also attended the scene and a community advice message was issued for smoke in the area.
