At 3.18pm, Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to an incident on Mountbatten Way, Sydenham, after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a house fire.
Firefighters arrived on scene to find one double-storey and one single-storey brick townhouse fully involved with fire.
The response was escalated and CFA firefighters also responded to this incident.
Due to the excessive fuel load and heavy winds, fire quickly spread to a third double-storey property.
Donned in Breathing Apparatus, a crew of 30 firefighters worked together to suppress the fire.
Through their quick action, firefighters protected an additional two properties from damage, and brought the incident under control at 5.28pm.
Ambulance Victoria assessed all residents at the scene.
FRV’s specialist fire investigators and Victoria Police will investigate the cause of the incident.
Firefighters and Victoria Police will remain overnight to ensure the safety of the area.
