Firefighters respond to tram and car crash in Coburg

Fire Rescue Victoria firefighters freed multiple people who were trapped in a car following a collision with a tram in Coburg this evening.

12 firefighters, including Specialist Rescue Operators, were called to the Sydney Road incident at 6.24pm after multiple callers to Triple Zero (000) reported the collision.

Crews arrived on scene within five minutes, and worked for just under an hour to safely free the occupants of the car.

The driver and passengers were treated on scene by Ambulance Victoria paramedics before being transported to hospital.

The tram driver and tram passengers were also assessed on scene by Ambulance Victoria paramedics.

Victoria Police is investigating the incident.

Emergency services remain on scene and there are disruptions to traffic in the area.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.
