More than 20 FRV firefighters responded to a Westmeadows garage fire on Monday morning.

Multiple callers to Triple Zero (000) reported the fire shortly after 7.30am and crews arrived at the Kenny Street scene within six minutes.

Upon arrival, crews found the fire was well alight and threatening the adjoining two-storey townhouse.

Crews worked quickly to attack the fire, using seven appliances, including an aerial appliance to attack the fire from above.

Firefighters brought the fire under control within 30 minutes of arrival.

The three occupants of the house evacuated before crews arrived.

Two cats suffered smoke inhalation and were revived.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria paramedics also attended the scene.

The fire was believed to be caused by a charging battery overheating.
