Firefighters responding to 3rd Alarm structure fire in Broadmeadows

At 5.28AM, Fire Rescue Victoria responded to a 3rd Alarm a structure fire at recycling plant at Maygar Blvd Broadmeadows following multiple calls to Triple Zero (000).

Crews arrived on scene within 7 minutes to find a 20m x 50m steel shed and a further area well alight.

There are no persons in the buildings.

There is a large volume of smoke to the north and a Community Warning for Smoke in the Area has been issued.

Crews are attacking the fire on the northern side of the structure and checking the exposures to an adjacent warehouse.

Aerial appliances are being set up to attack the fire from above.

Victoria Police are on the scene and will shut down the surrounding streets.

Yarra Valley Water and the EPA have been requested to attend the scene.

Update: 8.15AM

FRV declared the incident Under Control at 7.44AM.

FRV’s Scientific Officer continues to undertake atmospheric monitoring and the EPA is assessing the water runoff.

FRV crews will remain on the scene ensure the site is safe.
