Approximately 30 firefighters responded to a house fire in Broadmeadows early on Wednesday morning.

A caller to Triple Zero (000) reported a bungalow at the back of a house in Meredith Street was on fire, at about 2:45am.

Firefighters arrived in five minutes to find the bungalow well alight, and threatening to spread to the house in front.

Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters worked quickly to attack the fire from two sides and prevent it from spreading.

The occupants of the house safely evacuated the home and residents in two nearby units were also evacuated as a precaution.

Crews brought the fire under control 17 minutes after they first arrived on scene.

Firefighters believed the fire to be suspicious, and handed the scene over to Victoria Police for further investigation.

FRV worked alongside Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria at the scene.
