Thirty-five FRV firefighters worked together to stop a significant building fire in Eltham from spreading to adjoining properties on Tuesday night.

Multiple callers to Triple Zero (000) reported the Main Road fire just after 9.20pm and crews arrived on scene within three minutes.

Upon arrival, crews found the timber building was well alight and threatening nearby properties.

FRV and CFA firefighters worked together to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to adjoining buildings.

Wearing breathing apparatus, crews attacked the fire from the ground.

Crew also used an aerial appliance to knock down the fire from above.

Crews brought the fire under control within 55 minutes of arriving on scene.

Firefighters believe the fire may have started under suspicious circumstances, and Victoria Police will investigate the cause.
