Firefighters responded to a hospital in Heidelberg at around 11:30pm on Monday evening after an alert from a fire indicator panel.

Firefighters arrived to the Burgundy Street address in approximately seven minutes.

Crews investigated and found a water pipe had ruptured on the seventh floor of the building.

Thankfully, approximately 12 patients were safely relocated by staff to unaffected areas of the building.

Firefighters worked to isolate the pipe and contain the flooding to the western side of the seventh floor.

This ensured water did not seep through to any lower levels.

The incident was declared under control just before 1am on Tuesday morning.

At the height of the incident there were almost 30 firefighters on scene, on board seven firefighting appliances including a rescue unit.
