Firefighters swiftly contain Ashwood house fire

More than 20 FRV firefighters responded to a house fire in Ashwood on Saturday afternoon.

Multiple callers reported the fire to Triple Zero (000) just before 3.40pm.

Firefighters arrived at the Electra Avenue site within five minutes, finding a front bedroom of the house was well alight and the fire had entered the roof. 

Crews immediately escalated the response.

Using breathing apparatus, crews conducted a search of the double storey house, finding nobody was home.

Crews worked quickly to attack the fire, including by using an aerial appliance to attack the fire on the roof.

Firefighters brought the fire under control just before 3.50pm, seven minutes after their arrival.

Crews will remain on site to fully extinguish the fire and make the scene safe.

Specialist fire investigators are on site to help determine the cause of the fire.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria also attend the scene.

Update: 17 January 2021, 8.30am

The fire is believed to be suspicious and Victoria Police is investigating.
