Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) crews responded to an incident in Fawkner at 11:19pm last night following multiple Triple Zero (000) calls reporting a building fire.
Firefighters arrived on scene within 7 minutes to find smoke and flames issuing from a business housing a laundromat and Manchester supplies in a 50-metre row of shops.
Crews in breathing apparatus attacked the fire with multiple hoselines and an
aerial appliance to quell the flames and protect neighbouring businesses that were under threat.
Firefighters entered an adjoining shop which the fire was starting to extend into and stop it from spreading further.
Occupants of neighbouring residential units were evacuated as a precaution due to the amount of smoke and flames.
No injuries have been reported.
No persons were inside the impacted shops at the time of the fire.
The fire was declared under control at 12:13am, 47 minutes after FRV
arrived on scene.
The laundromat premises has sustained significant damage, with the fire spread and smoke causing some damage in a neighbouring shop.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined but will be investigated.
Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria were on scene to assist.
