Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) crews responded to a house fire on Wainui Avenue, Heathmont, shortly after 11am after multiple calls were made to Triple Zero (000).

Firefighters arrived to find a 10 metre by 15 metre single storey weatherboard house fully alight and impinging on a neighbouring house.

Crews were faced with one house fully alight, and a neighbouring home where the fire had spread to the roof of the structure.

Firefighters in breathing apparatus entered both homes and conducted a search to ensure no persons were inside.

Several residents of the street were evacuated from their homes due to the amount of smoke in the area and were monitored by Ambulance Victoria.

The fire was declared under control at 11:52am, 38 minutes after FRV arrived on scene.

One home has been destroyed by fire and significant damage sustained to the roof of the second home.

FRV crews will be on scene for several hours fully extinguishing the fire in both homes.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined but will be investigated.

CFA, Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria assisted on scene.
