Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) crews responded to Montague Street in South Melbourne at 3.13am this morning, following calls to Triple Zero (000) reporting a building fire.
Firefighters arrived on scene within seven minutes to find smoke and flames issuing from a 50m by 70m single storey building and immediately escalated the response.
FRV crews donned breathing apparatus and used hose lines to conduct an external attack on the blaze. The incident was declared under control at 3.59am, approximately 40 minutes after crews arrived on scene.
The cause of the fire is deemed to be suspicious, and it will be investigated by Victoria Police.
It was the second fire at the premises in the last 24 hours.
Firefighters will remain on scene to ensure the fire is fully extinguished.
