Firefighters work to bring Maidstone house fire under control

Approximately 32 firefighters responded to a house fire in Maidstone on Friday night.

Multiple callers to Triple Zero (000) reported the Commercial Street fire just before 11:40pm.

FRV crews arrived within six minutes to find the second storey residence of a shop well alight.

Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters entered the building to conduct a search for occupants and assisted one person from the building.  

Firefighters began an attack on the blaze and brought it under control in 25 minutes.

Crews remained on scene overnight to monitor for hotspots and to check for smoke spreading to nearby properties.

FRV firefighters worked alongside Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police at the scene, and will hand the scene over to Victoria Police for further investigation.
