Fires at recycling centre contained by FRV

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) crews responded to a monitored alarm activation at a recycling centre at Waterdale Road in Bellfield this afternoon and also received a phone call confirming a fire at the premise.

Crews arrived on scene within 3 minutes to find smoke and flames issuing from two separate fires in the processing plant of the facility.

FRV crews donned breathing apparatus and began attacking both fires however this was proving difficult due to access issues, so the response was escalated.

Two aerial trucks were required to help with accessing these difficult fires and extinguishing them.

Both fires are contained however FRV will remain on scene for some time, to ensure the fires are fully extinguished.

The cause of the fire is not yet known but it will be investigated by FRV specialists.
