Approximately 22 FRV firefighters responded to a house fire in Ringwood East on Wednesday morning.
A caller to Triple Zero (000) reported a bedroom in the Hunter Court house was on fire just before 6am.
Firefighters arrived on scene in eight minutes to find smoke and flames coming from the roof.
Five residents had safely evacuated before crews arrived.
Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters attacked the blaze from the rear of the building, preventing it from spreading to neighbouring properties.
The cause of the fire has been deemed suspicious.
Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police were on scene to assist.
