Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to several Triple Zero (000) calls reporting a house fire in St Albans.
Crews arrived on scene within five minutes to find smoke and flames issuing from the roof of a single storey brick house, so the response was escalated.
Firefighters in breathing apparatus searched the property and confirmed no one was inside.
The fire was deemed Under Control at 12pm, 40 minutes after FRV crews arrived.
The entire house sustained significant damage and will be assessed by the local council building surveyor for safety of the structure.
Safety procedures put in place due to asbestos in the house.
The cause of the fire is not yet known but it will be investigated.
Firefighters remained on scene for some time to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.
Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria were on scene to assist FRV.
