Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to an incident in First Avenue, Sunshine at 11.25pm yesterday after a caller to Triple Zero (000) reported a factory on fire.
Firefighters arrived on scene within six minutes to find the front of the factory fully involved in fire. The front wall of the single storey 15x40m brick building had collapsed bringing down power lines.
The power company attended to isolate the lines.
Crews, wearing breathing apparatus, escalated the response and had the fire under control within 30 minutes.
A search was undertaken by Firefighters and confirmed that no-one was inside.
Parts of the building were extensively damaged by fire whilst others were affected by smoke and water.
The Building Surveyor attended due to concerns of further building collapse.
Ambulance Victoria was on scene to monitor firefighter health and Victoria Police attended in support of FRV operations.
11 appliances and 31 firefighters were committed to the firefight.
The incident was deemed suspicious and the scene was handed to Victoria Police.
