Initial crews arrived on scene within four minutes to find a single storey weatherboard house fully involved in the fire.

Firefighters attacked the blaze externally, with crews working to prevent the fire spreading to neighbouring houses.

A community advice message was issued for residents in Eaglemont, Heidelberg, Heidelberg Heights and Ivanhoe for smoke in the area.

The fire caused significant damage to the house, but was brought under control at 10:22pm.

At the height of the incident there were eight firefighting appliances on scene, along with a command unit and two additional support units.

The fire is believed to be suspicious and the scene will be handed to Victoria Police.

Ambulance Victoria also supported FRV at the scene.
