At 3.21pm, Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to an incident on May Road, Lalor, after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a shop fire.
Firefighters arrived on scene to find a 10m by 10m single-storey brick shop, located in a row of shops, fully involved with fire.
FRV's response was escalated.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus made entry through the front of the shop and conducted a primary search, confirming no individuals were inside.
Six individuals were safely evacuated from the shop next door.
A partial roof collapse made it challenging for crews to access the fire, which was located in the middle of the shop.
Firefighters worked together to establish a hose line and attack the blaze.
The incident was brought under control at approximately 4.19pm.
Crews will remain on scene to ensure the safety of the area and to extinguish any remaining hotspots.
Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria were in attendance.
Power and gas companies were also on scene to isolate the area.
A building surveyor will attend to check the integrity of the structure.
A council health inspector will also attend.
A community advice message has been issued for smoke in the area.
