FRV crews fight Thornbury shop fire

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to a shop fire in Thornbury in the early hours of 15 May after multiple calls were made to Triple Zero. 

FRV crews arrived in under five minutes to find two take away food shops well alight with fire issuing through the roof of the building. 

Firefighters in breathing apparatus entered the building and conducted an aggressive internal attack on the fire. 

Eleven people were able to escape the fire and evacuate without injury. 

The fire was declared under control at 02:26AM, 53 minutes after FRV crews arrived on scene. 

The building housing a Subway restaurant and Cheesecake Shop received extensive damage in the blaze. 

The cause of the fire is being investigated and the scene was handed to Victoria Police. 

A Community Advice was issued for heavy smoke around St Georges Road and Normanby Avenue, Thornbury.
