FRV crews responded after Triple 000 call takers received multiple calls from 11.37am on 3 April for cars on fire at a factory in Preston.

FRV crews arrived on scene in five minutes to find multiple wrecked cars on fire in a yard with factories adjoining the property.

There were no reported evacuees from the car yard however all occupants of the adjoining properties were evacuated for their safety.

The fire was emitting a large amount of smoke, so a community warning was published to inform the local community of a fire event in the area and to avoid travelling in the vicinity of the fire.

FRV crews donned breathing apparatus to enable them to attack the fire and search the adjoining properties for any fire extension.

The fire was deemed under control by 12.08pm and was suspected to be started accidentally by workers on scene.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria were on scene assisting.
