FRV crews respond to Royal Melbourne Hospital basement fire

Friday 16 September 2022 11:12pm

FRV crews responded to a Fire Indicator Panel (FIP) activation in a basement area of the Royal Melbourne Hospital in Parkville just after 9 pm on Friday night.

Firefighters arrived to the Grattan Street scene in less than four minutes to find a small fire had occurred as workers were applying high expansion foam which had overheated during the application process (exothermic reaction).

Wearing breathing apparatus, FRV crews quickly extinguished the fire and mitigated the smoke from the area.

There was no impact on the hospital activities from FRV operations during this period.

Ambulance Victoria treated two contractors at the scene for smoke inhalation.
