The incident was deemed under control at 5.57pm with the grassfire contained to a paddock between Boundary Road and Middle Road, Truganina.
Fire crews remain on scene and will continue to attack the blaze.
Ambulance Victoria is also in attendance.
Update 5.50pm
FRV crews, alongside CFA firefighters in tankers and a firefighting helicopter crew are working together to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading.
Victoria Police is also on scene assisting with the evacuation of houses to the south of Boundary Road, Truganina.
A community warning to stay informed was issued in the region.
Update 4.45pm
At 4.06pm, Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to an incident near the intersection of Boundary Road and Mount Atkinson/Tarneit Road at Truganina following multiple calls to Triple Zero (000) reporting a spreading grass and scrub fire.
The response was escalated with support by CFA.
Firefighters arrived on scene to find a grass and scrub fire around 50 hectares in size and worked quickly to attack the fire.
The incident is not yet deemed Under Control and firefighters remain on scene.
