FRV firefighters respond to unit fire in Preston

FRV firefighters responded to a unit fire in Preston late this afternoon following multiple calls to Triple Zero (000) shortly before 5pm. 

Firefighters arrived on scene within five minutes to find the rear section and roof area of a single storey brick veneer unit on fire. 

Five FRV appliances, one FRV rescue appliance and one FRV aerial appliance attended the incident. 

Firefighters in breathing apparatus entered the building and worked quickly with hose lines to extinguish the blaze. 

A search was conducted by firefighters to confirm there was no one in the unit.

The fire was declared under control at 5:05pm, 10 minutes after firefighters arrived on the scene. 

The fire has caused significant damage to approximately 75 percent of the unit. 

At this stage, the fire is being treated as suspicious. 

Fire crews will remain on scene into the night to ensure the fire is fully extinguished.

Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria also attended the incident.
