Approximately 20 firefighters, including FRV’s specialist Hazmat unit, responded to a chemical spill in Parkville just after 12:15pm on Tuesday afternoon.
Firefighters arrived at Grattan Street in six minutes and worked with an FRV Scientific Officer and Hazmat crews to contain the incident, which was in a research facility washroom.
More than 100 people were evacuated from the building as a safety precaution while firefighters mitigated the spill.
FRV crews determined that a reaction had occurred between two chemicals that mixed together with water.
The incident was declared under control at around 2:15pm and firefighters remained on scene into the afternoon to ensure the scene was safe.
Victoria Police and Ambulance Victoria assisted FRV at the scene.
No injuries were reported.
