Approximately 12 firefighters responded to a gas main leak in Coburg on Sunday morning.
The main, on Sydney Road, was ruptured during water main works just after 11:00am.
FRV crews arrived on scene in five minutes and worked to disperse the gas vapours.
FRV Hazmat crews also monitored air in the surrounding area.
A community advice warning has been issued for the area surrounding the incident.
The public are advised to stay indoors and avoid the area on Sydney Rd between Bell St and Harding St to allow emergency access.
FRV crews worked alongside Victoria Police at the scene.
