UPDATE 1PM: The crane operator exited the crane independently once it was safe to do so and was assessed by Ambulance Victoria.
The incident was deemed Under Control at 11.18am.
Firefighters remained on scene for some time to ensure the scene was safe.
11.30am 27 August 2025: At 10.29am, Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to an incident on Swann Drive, Derrimut after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a crane had collapsed crushing a car and possibly trapping people.
The response was escalated with firefighters arriving on scene within five minutes to find the arm of the crane had collapsed in the wind bringing powerlines down over cars.
Specialist FRV firefighters from the High Angle Rescue Team are currently on scene working to free the crane driver.
Thankfully, no one was inside the vehicle under the crane.
Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police are also on scene.
