FRV responds to fire at Sunshine Hospital

FRV firefighters responded to a fire at Sunshine Hospital in St Albans last night following an automatic alarm activation and a call to Triple Zero (000) shortly before 11.45pm. 

The fire was contained to one room of the hospital and the sprinklers also activated. 

Firefighters were on scene in six minutes. 

Six appliances attended and the incident was under control at 11.50pm. 

Firefighters assisted to evacuate thirty patients and 20 hospital staff who were moved laterally to a level 3 smoke free area.

Ambulance Victoria also attended the incident, and a number of patients were treated for smoke inhalation. 

At this stage, the cause of the fire has been deemed suspicious and the scene handed over to Victoria Police.
