FRV responds to two Strathmore homes ablaze

Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to a structure fire on Brosnan Crescent, Strathmore at 01.16am after callers to Triple Zero (000) reported multiple cars and homes on fire.

Crews arrived on scene within seven minutes to find two cars and two houses on fire and additional firefighting trucks were immediately requested to assist.

The two burning cars, located in one driveway, were close to both weatherboard homes and the fire quickly extended into the roof space of both homes before FRV arrived.

Both families from were woken by the car explosions, followed by their working smoke alarms, and were unharmed.

The fire was deemed Under Control at 2.08am.

At the peak of the response, 12 appliances and 30 firefighters were on scene.

Both homes suffered substantial damage, and both families sourced alternative accommodation.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined but FRV's Fire Investigation Unit was notified.

FRV firefighters remained on scene throughout the morning undertaking fire duties and extinguishing hot spots.
