FRV responds to significant factory fire at Derrimut

At 10.41am, Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to an incident on East Derrimut Crescent at Derrimut after multiple callers to Triple Zero (000) reported a fire inside a factory.

The response was escalated.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find heavy smoke issuing from a factory, around 30m by 50m, with a fire at the western end of the building.

Firefighters set up for a defensive attack on the fire due to structural collapses of the building involved.

The incident is not yet deemed Under Control and firefighters remain on the scene.

A community warning has been issued for smoke in the area.

UPDATE at 1.55pm on 09.01.2026:

Firefighters employed effective tactics to knock the fire down and the incident was deemed Under Control at 1.28pm.

Neighbouring businesses were evacuated.

Four patients were treated by Ambulance Victoria for smoke inhalation and transported to hospital.

Ambulance Victoria was also on the scene for firefighter welfare.

Victoria Police was on the scene for traffic management.

The Environment Protection Authority and WorkSafe was notified.

The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
