FRV tackles factory fire at Sunshine West

At 7.19pm, Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) responded to reports of a large column of smoke issuing from a factory at Boundary Road in Sunshine West.

Firefighters arrived to find a large pile of scrap metal in a metal recycling factory well alight.

FRV crews in breathing apparatus attacked the fire with multiple hoselines to knock down the flames.

Once the fire was declared Under Control at 08.15pm, representatives of the recycling company used heavy machinery to pull apart the smouldering metal whilst firefighters continued to cool the pile.

A Community Advice was issued warning the public of large amounts of smoke from the fire.

A total of 31 firefighters attended with 5 pumpers, 2 Aerial Appliances, 1 Rescue Unit and 2 other units.
