Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) crews responded to reports of bushes and a building on fire at Bryant Street in Flemington this morning following several calls to Triple Zero (000) around 4.09am.
Crews arrived on scene within 5 minutes to find a ground floor unit well alight and threatening the adjoining units of a 3-storey unit block, so the response was escalated.
FRV crews donned breathing apparatus and began an external attack on the fire from the front while making access to the units to conduct searches.
The fire was deemed under control by 4.37am.
Thorough searches were conducted on all 16 units of the development with all evacuees safe and being assessed by Ambulance Victoria.
The cause of the fire is not yet known but it will be investigated by FRV specialists.
Firefighters will remain on scene for some time, to ensure the fire is fully extinguished.
Ambulance Victoria and Victoria Police were on scene assisting.
