Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) crews responded to several calls of a beach shack on fire in Werribee South just after 1am this morning.

Crews arrived on scene within 15 minutes due to the remote location to find smoke and flames issuing from the roofs of two single storey beach shacks, so the response was escalated.

FRV crews wore breathing apparatus and attacked the fire preventing it from spreading to adjoining properties.

There were no occupants home at the time.

The nearest hydrant was over 1.5 km away which hampered firefighting duties.

The fire was deemed Under Control by 2.22am with crews remaining on scene for some time to ensure the fire was fully extinguished.

The cause of the blaze is being investigated by FRV specialists in conjunction with Victoria Police.
