Garbage truck fire in the CBD

FRV firefighters were called to Little Bourke St this afternoon after a garbage truck erupted in flames.

Crews were called to the scene shortly before 5.30pm and arrived to find the truck carrying a full load of rubbish ablaze.

A community message was issued due to the large amount of smoke billowing from the vehicle.

Crews managed to contain the fire to the rear of the truck and worked to pull apart the rubbish and extinguish the flames.

The truck was carrying cardboard, plastic and recycling materials. It has since been towed.

Victoria Police also attended.
