Firefighters are currently on scene in Avondale Heights where a grassfire has threatened homes this afternoon.
FRV Crews were called to Towe Street shortly before 4pm, arriving to find a grassfire with several nearby houses under attack.
Firefighters worked quickly to protect life and property, evacuating affected residents and acting to prevent the blaze from spreading.
Three houses have been impacted by the fire, one sustaining significant damage.
No one was home at the time. The incident was declared under control at about 5.30pm.
FRV Commander John Zuccarelli said crews did an outstanding job amid challenging conditions.
“It was a challenging incident with grassfire, wind and heat. Firefighters did a cracking job to contain the fire and not lose homes.”
At this stage the fire is believed to have been sparked by a tree branch over powerlines.
