High-rise balcony fire in Carlton under control

Approximately 30 firefighters responded to a fire on a 15th floor balcony of a high-rise building in Carlton this afternoon following several Triple Zero (000) calls and fire alarms.

Arriving within five minutes firefighters quickly identified smoke and flames issuing from furniture from the residential balcony and began to enter the building wearing breathing apparatus. Crews were able to bring the scene under control within 10 minutes and the flames were successfully contained and did not spread within the building.

Thankfully there are no reported injuries.

Five Pumpers, one Rescue unit, a Ladder Platform and a Teleboom were assisted by three specialist and support vehicles.

The cause is still being investigated.
